U.S. Refused To Declare Okinawa Nuke-Free In '71
The Japanese government released a diplomatic cable sent on November 15, 1971. In the cable, Japan asked Richard Nixon to declare that Okinawa would have no nuclear weapons within its territory when America returns the islands. Nixon refused to comply.
