Japan to send envoy to Nobel peace award ceremony

Reuters reported that Japan would attend the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony for Liu Xiaobo, the Chinese dissident. Reuters believed China would become angry with Japan for attending the ceremony. The relationship between the two countries might spiral downward once again. Maybe, but on the other hand, perhaps Japan could show China a little sincerity and that would patch things up.

Elsewhere in Japan, Toyota announced it would build a $700 million research and development facility near Shanghai.

“It will be Toyota’s first full-fledged research and development company in China," said one Toyota spokeswoman.

The facility will employ a thousand workers.
