A Smarter, More Secure America

Many conspiracy theorists believe the Council on Foreign Relations secretly controls the government. But for the Obama administration, it appears that the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) had much more influence. In particular, the Obama administration seems to have adopted their strategy of “smart power.”

On November 6, 2007, CSIS published a report on smart power. The report cautioned against overreacting to terrorist attacks.

“Terrorists pose no existential threat to the United States,” said CSIS. “Their only hope-and indeed, their intended plan-is to use a sort of ‘jujitsu effect’ in which they entice a large, powerful nation such as the United States to overreact and make choices that hurt itself.”

Given that statement, it is pretty ironic that President Obama decided to increase the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan from 38,000 to almost 100,000.

Whoops. Okay, so maybe Obama didn’t listen to all the recommendations in the report. But he did listen to some of the recommendations.

After eight years of invasions, war, and torture, the report recognized the importance of improving the image of America in the world. To do that, CSIS recommended that America focus on public diplomacy.

“Effective public diplomacy is central to any discussions about American image and influence in the world today,” said CSIS.

Normal diplomacy involves a group of diplomats talking to each other behind close doors. Public diplomacy, as the name suggests, involves the public, for instance, people like me.

“The advent of the global information age and a growing and highly fractured political consciousness have increased the difficulty of favorably shaping public opinion in foreign lands,” said CSIS. “Attacks on America’s message from non-state actors can only be countered with an agility and authenticity that most governments lack.”

This is where I come in. During the 2008 presidential election, the government got me to create a website that supported Barack Obama.

The reported noted that “the center of gravity in world affairs” was moving towards Asia. That being the case, America needed people who could influence people in that region. What better way to alter public opinion in Asia than to use me, a Japanese-American. When interacting with a country, America often uses people of the same race as the people living inside that country. I guess America thinks those people might get a better reception than people of a different race.

Actually, in my case, what my government had in mind for me went a little bit beyond what you would call public diplomacy.

“The intent of public diplomacy is to communicate with the people, not the governments, of foreign countries,” said CSIS.

In my case, it appears the government wanted me to communicate with foreign governments, in particular the government of Japan. Whether or not that falls under the category of public diplomacy, I don’t know. But it did seem to fall under the category of things CSIS wanted to do.

“Diplomacy today requires new methods compared to traditional diplomacy,” said CSIS. There was once a time when diplomacy involved American officials meeting quietly to discuss problems with foreign government and private sector elites. Although there is still a central role for these formal channels of dialogue, diplomacy today is far more diverse and challenging. Elites of any one nation today often have more in common with counterparts in other countries than with most citizens in their own country. American diplomats need the capacity to reach beyond these traditional sources of information and channels of influence to better understand and shape views abroad.”

Now that we have the Internet, anyone can communicate with a foreign country…even me.

Blogging for a New World Order

On May 18, 2007, I created a blog called “Blogging for a New World Order.” The funny thing is at the time I created the blog I didn’t even know what the term “New World Order” meant. The only New World Order I knew about was the one that had Hulk Hogan. But, of course, my government knew what the term meant and they “made” me create this blog. I think they really were hoping to rule the world using a small cabal of greedy people. Boy did this not turn out the way they imagined.

Whoops.

Lawrence Wright speaks at Princeton

On April 25, 2007, Lawrence Wright gave a speech on the radicalization of Muslims at Princeton University. In his speech, he discussed a pair of studies that looked at the backgrounds of the people who committed acts of terrorism. The first study was conducted by Saad Eddin Ibrahim, a professor at the American University in Cairo. Ibrahim learned that most of the young, radicalized Muslims who were incarcerated in Egypt were not the people Ibrahim expected to find there.

“To his surprise, he discovered they were mostly ambitious and well educated young men,” said Wright. “They were drawn to the fields of science and engineering. He called them model young Egyptians.”

The other study examined the backgrounds of the terrorists who trained at the Al Qaeda camps in Afghanistan during the 90s.

“These were not impoverished social failures,” said Wright. “They were, many of them, from middle and upper class families. They were from intact families. They were college educated. They were not the products of the religious schools. Many of them actually were educated in Europe or America. Some of them spoke as many as five or six languages. They had no obvious mental disorders. Interestingly enough, many of them weren’t even very religious when they went into the Al Qaeda camps.”

In his speech, Wright also noted that many of the terrorists who had been targeting Britain were not foreigners or immigrants.

“If you look at the recent plots that have been taking place or have been broken up in the UK – the subway bombings, the ten airliners that were suppose to be hijacked and blown up over the Atlantic – these were second and third generation British citizens,” said Wright.

In the rest of his speech, Wright tried to explain how these Muslims became radicalized. His theory is all wrong and so I won’t repeat it here. In fact, these Muslims are being radicalized by Western intelligence agencies.

The person who conducted the second study was a man by the name of Marc Sageman. Sageman was a psychiatrist and a case officer for the CIA during the Soviet war in Afghanistan.

“There’s a combination you don’t run into everyday,” quipped Wright.

Actually, it is no coincidence that Sageman is both a psychiatrist and a CIA case officer for Afghanistan. After all, to fight against the Soviets in Afghanistan, the CIA needed to radicalize young Muslims and who better to do that than a psychiatrist. Remember that Henry A. Murray, the Harvard psychologist who radicalized the Unabomber, also worked for the CIA. And remember that Murray conducted his radicalization program at Harvard University. As such, it is not surprising that many of these radicalized Muslims went to an American or European university.

It is also not a coincidence that many of these Muslims are scientists or engineers. It appears that Western intelligence agencies prefer to radicalize engineers instead of liberal arts majors. For one thing, us engineers – and for the record I got a computer science degree – are often, well, weird. Many of us are loners. Regardless of whether or not that makes us easier to radicalize, it at least makes it easier for the media to explain why we “went off the deep end.”

This will not stand.

Move into an apartment

While staying at the Budget Suites, the roof of my building caught on fire (it was a small fire that was easily extinguished). I often had trouble with my Internet connection. Crime seemed to be a problem. I once saw a guy getting hand cuffed by the police (I don’ know why).

Usually, people only stay at the Budget Suites for a short time, as it is cheaper to rent an apartment. I stayed there for about a year. And for much of that time, I had the same neighbors, which I thought was odd. I continued to believe that I was being followed and observed, probably by my neighbors.

I never saw the neighbors on my right. But if I remember correctly, while they always had their blinds shut, they had placed something next to their blinds to further block the sun, as the blinds did not block the sun completely (this is why I believe I had the same neighbors on my right for much of my stay at the Budget Suites – because the item they placed in their window stayed there for a long time). I do remember that at one point, one of the staff at the Budget Suites told me that they were having problems with the guy who lived there. I didn’t bother to ask what those problems were.

I did see the neighbors on my left on a couple of occasions. There were three of them, a husband, a wife, and a baby. After they moved in, the wife knocked on my door to ask me if I had something or other that I could give her. I didn’t have it. One night, she got extremely upset and yelled, “I’m going to call the cops!” And then someone banged on my door. I assume it was her. I did not go to my door to check. Nothing happened, as far as I could tell. The next day, my neighbors were still there.

In the middle of the summer, they often had their windows open. One of those windows was located right above the air conditioner. You would think the hot air that was leaving the air conditioner would just move through the window and re-enter the apartment. Presumably, they had the window open in order to vent their apartment. In retrospect, I believe that whatever airborne substance that was affecting me was also affecting them.

After realizing that I was spending more at the Budget Suites than I would at the nicest apartment complex in Las Vegas, I made the decision to leave the Budget Suites and move into the nicest apartment complex in Las Vegas.

Right after I moved into Wellington Meadows, I went back to the Budget Suites to see if my neighbors were still there. My neighbors on both sides were gone. They must have moved out right after I moved out. This convinced me that someone had in fact hired them to watch me.

Daniel McGrory dies

Today, Daniel McGrory was found dead in his home. He was only 54 years old. He was a foreign correspondent who worked for the Times of London. While working for that newspaper, he wrote many stories about the connection between Al Qaeda and Britain. I am sure those stories angered his government and I believe that is why they killed him.

This will not stand.

Sometimes I wonder if anybody at all reads the papers:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,29389-2205344,00.html The Untouchable: how Abu Hamza was allowed to preach hate as authority looked the other way By Sean O'Neill and Daniel McGrory Time and time again British officials were given evidence of the radical cleric's involvement in terrorism, but nothing was done to stop him. -------------------------------- An example of the evidence that MI5 and MI6 received: -------------------------------- http://www.timesonline.co.uk/printFriendly/0,,1-523-2460306-523,00.html The Sunday Times November 19, 2006

Focus: My life as a spy at the heart of Al-Qaeda Al-Qaeda trained Omar Nasiri in its Afghan terror camps as a bomber and sent him to London. Unknown to them he was also working for western intelligence. Here he reveals his life as a double agent operating at the very edge of the law

[. . .] Hamza asked me which of the camps in Afghanistan I had been in, and I told him. Then I leant forward slightly. "I met someone you know," I said in a conspiratorial voice. Hamza raised his brow just slightly.

"I trained with Assad Allah," I told him. "He told me about the nitroglycerine, and how you lost your hands." Hamza looked away. "Brother," he whispered, not meeting my gaze, "please don’t share that story with anyone."

As I was to learn later, Hamza claimed he had lost his hands defusing a landmine on the front lines in Afghanistan. I knew the real story.

Assad Allah was an enormous Algerian who had taught me how to handle explosives at the Darunta training camp near Jalalabad. With his green eyes and red hair, he looked like an Irish rugby player.

As a trainee mujahid I had learnt some basic things, such as how to set off an explosive using a watch or a mobile phone. But with Assad Allah we used complicated mathematics and chemistry, and the work required intense concentration.

We learnt to make every explosive from scratch: black powder, RDX, tetryl, TNT, dynamite, C2, C3, C4, Semtex, nitroglycerine, and so on. We learnt how to construct each of these from everyday products: corn syrup, hair dye, lemons, pencils, sugar, coffee, Epsom salts, mothballs, batteries, matches, paint, cleaning products, bleach, brake fluid, fertiliser, sand – even my own urine.

We learnt how to blow up a train, cars and buildings. We talked a lot about aeroplanes: Semtex was easiest to get on board, because it was almost impossible to detect, but it was hard to obtain so we learnt about liquid explosives.

We needed to know what to do instinctively. So we rehearsed the formulas over and over again until we could repeat them in our sleep. And every Sunday Assad Allah gave us a test to make sure we knew it. There was no joking around in his class. Any one of us could have killed the entire group with a small mistake.

One day Assad Allah told us about an accident that had occurred during his own explosives training. His group was learning how to make nitroglycerine, and one of the brothers wasn’t paying attention. He let the materials get hotter than he should have.

Luckily, the trainer saw the thermometer. "It’s going to explode!" he shouted.

There was a sink full of ice right next to the trainee, and he should have poured the materials on that to cool it down. But instead he rushed towards the door with the liquid timebomb in his hands. Just as he got outside, the mixture exploded. It blew both his hands straight off and destroyed one of his eyes.

"Did the brother survive?" I had asked. "Yes," Assad Allah replied. "He lives in London now, and preaches in the mosques. His name is Abu Hamza." --------------------------- But rather than throw Hamza in jail, they put a police cordon around him so he could continue to recruit bombers and block traffic on the pavement outside the Finsbury Park mosque from which the Muslim Council of Britain had expelled him. http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2005/07/10/international/10qaedaCA01ready.html

Rather than lock up Hamza, they tried to get a Muslim who was spying on him for MI5 killed by Hamza's henchmen. When he managed to escape his killers, they threw him out of the country.

Highbury wants even more

In response to the latest comment made by PapaKarl, Highbury wrote the following.
Papakarl, I think I can take it! and thanks for the links to some of the other stories. But this still leaves a couple of assertions uncovered.

“OSAMA'S GREAT ESCAPE: A CIA JOB”

“Mohammed Atta inexplicably left the US for Spain just after the CIA's get-well visit to Osama. Why? To meet Abu Qatada, the MI5 agent”

“Abu Hamza, the Sandhurst-trained bomb expert”

Thanks to jona322 for supplying the link for “JULY 2001: CIA PAYS GET-WELL VISIT TO OSAMA” http://www.guardian.co.uk/waronterror/story/0,1361,584444,00.html

I don’t trust the spooks one inch and really wonder if they are under any sort of control at all. As marketsaremonsters says “What the fuck would they have left to scare us with if they killed bin Laden?” I think this is very much the point. It scares us into accepting the curtailment of our civil liberties, funding the military industrial complex and embarking on a fresh wave of colonialism to control diminishing oil stocks.

“Winning the War on Communism” was a plus because it gave us new markets but left us without a great big boogie-man to be afraid of.

I wonder how much of the present clusterfuck in Iraq is accidental. I understand that State Department and Pentagon plans for a post war Iraq were thrown out by Rumsfeld. What happens when you disband both the army and the police? Given the obvious sectarian divides and a foreign occupation, did they really think that post-war Iraq was going to be as peaceful as the Garden of Eden? Why does Iraq merit the building of the largest US embassy in the world and the establishment of some 13 permanent military bases? How much reconstruction money's gone missing?

We're the good guys, right?

PapaKarl accuses the Guaridan of censorship

In response to Highbury, PapaKarl wrote the following.
Jennyandclones was one of those cheering on the CIF censor when he was going around deleting all my posts containing links to news stories on the incestuous relationship between MI6 and Al Qaeda. Here's one of the deleted posts:

I'M REPOSTING THIS HOPING THAT CIF WILL EVENTUALLY COME TO ITS SENSES AND STOP SYSTEMATICALLY CENSORING MY POSTS.

Well it looks like the spooky peeress's terror scare has had its effect and anti-Muslim hysteria has been cranked up yet another notch.

I would like to propose a novel idea to those who really want to get to the bottom of this jihadi terrorism business, as opposed to those who aren't interested in listening to anything that could spoil their fun bashing Muslims.

The idea is simple: Bag Dame Eliza and that aristo pal of hers at MI6 and fly them off to a "renderistan" to make them confess their crimes as leading sponsors of jihadi terrorism, including against British citizens. The hyphenated viscount's daughter and his lordship John McLeod Scarlett of MI6 have a rap sheet a mile long, far too long to post here. Here are some highlights:

---------------------------------------- MI5 agent Shayler was slapped with a gag order when he revealed that MI6 paid Al Qaeda to assassinate Gaddafi. The attempt failed but the British-contracted Libyan Al Qaeda cell killed two German BND agents and then went on to blow up two US embassies in Africa. The mastermind of these murders of NATO allies was given refugee status in Britain. Libya issued an Interpol arrest warrant against Bin Laden that was ignored due to US & UK pressure.

Startling revelations by French intelligence experts back David Shayler's alleged 'fantasy'about Gadaffi plot

Martin Bright, home affairs editor Sunday November 10, 2002 The Observer

British intelligence paid large sums of money to an al-Qaeda cell in Libya in a doomed attempt to assassinate Colonel Gadaffi in 1996 and thwarted early attempts to bring Osama bin Laden to justice.

The latest claims of MI6 involvement with Libya's fearsome Islamic Fighting Group, which is connected to one of bin Laden's trusted lieutenants, will be embarrassing to the Government, which described similar claims by renegade MI5 officer David Shayler as 'pure fantasy'.

The allegations have emerged in the book Forbidden Truth , published in America by two French intelligence experts who reveal that the first Interpol arrest warrant for bin Laden was issued by Libya in March 1998.

According to journalist Guillaume Dasquie and Jean-Charles Brisard, an adviser to French President Jacques Chirac, British and US intelligence agencies buried the fact that the arrest warrant had come from Libya and played down the threat. Five months after the warrant was issued, al-Qaeda killed more than 200 people in the truck bombings of US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.

The arrest warrant was issued in connection with the murder in March 1994 of two German anti-terrorism agents, Silvan and Vera Becker, who were in charge of missions in Africa. According to the book, the resistance of Western intelligence agencies to the Libyan concerns can be explained by MI6's involvement with the al-Qaeda coup plot.

The Libyan al-Qaeda cell included Anas al-Liby, who remains on the US government's most wanted list with a reward of $25 million for his capture. He is wanted for his involvement in the African embassy bombings. Al-Liby was with bin Laden in Sudan before the al-Qaeda leader returned to Afghanistan in 1996.

Astonishingly, despite suspicions that he was a high-level al-Qaeda operative, al-Liby was given political asylum in Britain and lived in Manchester until May of 2000 when he eluded a police raid on his house and fled abroad. The raid discovered a 180-page al-Qaeda 'manual for jihad' containing instructions for terrorist attacks. ----------------------------------------

Two months before September 11 Osama bin Laden flew to Dubai for 10 days for treatment at the American hospital, where he was visited by the local CIA agent, according to the French newspaper Le Figaro.

The disclosures are known to come from French intelligence which is keen to reveal the ambiguous role of the CIA, and to restrain Washington from extending the war to Iraq and elsewhere.

Bin Laden is reported to have arrived in Dubai on July 4 from Quetta in Pakistan with his own personal doctor, nurse and four bodyguards, to be treated in the urology department. While there he was visited by several members of his family and Saudi personalities, and the CIA.

Papakarl can, with bells on.

The question is can you handle it?

Evidence please

Papakarl makes some pretty contentious assertions.

I've often suspected that the full picture is a lot murkier than we are given to believe. Whether it's conspiracy theory or cock-up, there's something very curious going on. We were told, and have evry reason to believe, Osama Bin Laden was behind the Twin Towers and other terrorist outrages.

I've always wondered why 'we' stopped looking for him and invaded Iraq instead. It's as if the whole Iraq war was a massive a distraction. I suppose any suggestion that the War on Terror was a complete sham designed to give 'us' an excuse to control the middle east's oil supplies would be cynical in the extreme.

I wonder if Papakarl can give us any sources to corroborate his assertions.

PapaKarl on bin Laden's escape

In the comments section of “Keep your friends close,” a person whose username is PapaKarl wrote the following.
Excellent top-class reporting, the kind that we almost never get at CIF or anywhere else for that matter.

OSAMA'S GREAT ESCAPE: A CIA JOB

I always thought that the US didn't commit any forces to the Tora Bora siege to let Osama bribe his way out. But now we know the CIA made sure that Osama didn't stumble upon some implacable enemy who would never forgo the pleasure of slowly torturing him to death for any amount of money. Like General Dostum, the turncoat former Soviet ally, for instance. Instead, they entrusted Hekmetyar, the CIA's favorite woman-disfigurer with the job (always with a jar of sulphuric acid hands to throw in the face of burqa-less gals).

JULY 2001: CIA PAYS GET-WELL VISIT TO OSAMA

You wonder why this sort of reporting never gets on the front page. Why did the widely-known get-well visit by the CIA station chief in Dubai, Larry Mitchell, to Osama at the American Hospital almost exactly two months before 9-11 never reach the Anglo-American media? Mitchell bragged about it later and the Saudi prince who arranged the visit provided ample details to journalists. On top if at all, French intelligence was monitoring the whole thing and duly leaked it to its favorite paper the Figaro.

JULY 2001: ATTA GOES TO SPAIN TO MEET MI5 AGENT AL QAEDA CHIEF Why does no one connect the dots between Abu Qatada, Al Qaeda's top kingpin in Europe, who was given bed & board in an MI5 safehouse a few dozen yards from Scotland Yard when Britain was forced to issue an arrest warrant for him, and Mohammed Atta? Mohammed Atta inexplicably left the US for Spain just after the CIA's get-well visit to Osama. Why? To meet Abu Qatada, the MI5 agent, many of whose sermons he had on tape in his Hamburg apartment. MI5 agent Qatada, connected with no shred of a plausible doubt to dozens of terrorist attacks and receiving regular monies from the Spanish cell that pulled off the Madrid train bombings, is neither being tortured at Gitmo nor hanging from a noose like Saddam. Britain has found NOTHING to charge him with and he is whiling away the time in a comfortable prison cell while the Home Office talks vaguely of deporting him to Jordan. Soon we'll forget all about him and he will be sent away to a pleasant retirement, like Omar Bakri was to Lebanon.

THE AL QAEDA TERRORIST WHO BOMBED THE US EMBASSIES IN AFRICA PAID 100,000 BY MI6 Today US forces are massacring Somali civilians with the pretext of "hunting down the AL Qaeda bombers who blew up the US embassies in Africa." The man wanted by the FBI for those bombings is Anas al-Liby. Anas al-Liby is the head of the Al Qaeda cell in Libya to which MI6 paid 100,000 dollars to assassinate Gaddafi. Libya issued an interpol arrest warrant for them when they killed two West German intelligence agents. That's West German as in NATO ally, no East German as in commie bad guy. Guess what the US and UK did? They leaned on Interpol to suppress the red bulletin. It was not distributed. 5 months later, Anas al-Liby blew up the embassies. Then French intelligence discovered him hiding out in Manchester with British refugee status. As soon as France told the UK authorities, the jihadi terrorist "somehow" sensed he was going to be nabbed - as did all other jihadis that France found in Britain and fingered to the Brits - and hightailed it.

You Brits think they call your country Londonistan because it's being "Islamified." Far from it. Your Muslim community is minute compared to France or Germany. Your country is called Londonistan simply because you aid, abet, and harbor a huge number of jihadi terrorists.

I haven't even gotten around to talking about Abu Hamza, the Sandhurst-trained bomb expert who brainwashed Siddique Khan the 7/7 bomber, or Haroon Aswat, the MI6 agent who called the 7/7 tube bombers repeatedly just before he hopped on a plane at Heathrow as the bombs went off.

Why, then, do we never see this stuff on the front page? Do editors get calls from MI5 or the CIA? Occasionally, no doubt. There have been open admission from both governments that the media sat on several stories when requested to do so for "national security reasons."

But there's an equally if not more important reason: Joe Blow doesn't want to know about it. Your regular punter wants to hear that Muslims are evil. He doesn't want to hear that his government is evil. He won't buy a paper or watch a TV show that tells him his government is evil. He'll switch to a paper or show that tells him Muslims are evil. So the boobs are told what they want to hear. That simple.

Keep your friends close

The Guardian published an article which claimed that Gulbuddin Hekmatyar helped Osama bin Laden escape from Tora Bora after 9/11. Hekmatyar, remember, was the largest recipient of CIA funds during the war between the Afghans and the Soviets. The Guardian never says this, but the implication, of course, is that the CIA helped Osama bin Laden escape from Tora Bora. Hekmatyar, after all, was their man.

I discovered this article in the summer of 2011, I think, while looking for connections between Gaddafi and Al Qaeda. Actually, what caught my eye wasn’t really the article itself but the responses to the article in the comments section. A person whose username is PapaKarl wrote some very interesting comments. Presumably, he made his comments as part of the New Diplomacy, in which anonymous people publish secret information on the Internet.
