Birthday

I am a Japanese-American who was born on July 23, 1977. I grew up in Sunnyvale, which is located in Silicon Valley. After graduating from high school, I went to a local college for two years and then transferred to UC Davis where I got a bachelor’s degree in computer science.

My mother grew up in Oakland, which is about an hour’s drive from Sunnyvale. She was born in a concentration camp during World War II. My father grew up in Colorado. After completing his degree in mechanical engineering, he got a job with GE and moved to Silicon Valley. Soon after he joined GE, he worked on the design of the cooling system for the Fukushima 1 reactor in Japan.

I believe the history of my parents, the fact that my mother was born in a concentration camp, the fact that my father worked on the cooling system of the Fukushima 1 reactor, and the fact that they are both Japanese-Americans, are the reasons why I was chosen, without my consent, to participate in the New Diplomacy.
